This summer’s board member feature is on one of S.A.F.E.’s newest members – Karen B. Mathura. Karen is an attorney who has more than 15 years in providing litigation and business counseling in the areas of medical malpractice, hospital claims and emergency room nursing care. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, she received her BS in Nursing from Georgetown University in 1995 and her J.D. in Law from the University of Baltimore. Her background in
Nursing has been the ideal foundation for her work as an attorney in working with Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical firms in risk management. Karen is currently with the firm RCM&D, and much of her work involves travel. This high energy and dedicated professional is busy with both career and family. She and her husband, Dr. Jeevan R. Mathura, are the proud parents of Kali (9 years old); JT (7 years old); and Kiran (4 years old). She is quite the athlete – enjoying running, snow skiing and coaching the “Girls on the Run” track team in Montgomery County. Her husband, Dr. Jeevan Mathura, is equally busy. He is an Ophthalmologist who opened a new clinic – Diabetic Eye & Macular Disease Specialists, LLC, at Providence Hospital – on May 15, 2015.
Karen’s love of sports has been passed on to her children. Both Kali and JT were part of theS.A.F.E. Winter Tennis program this year at College Park. And next year she plans to have Kiran be a part of our College Park Winter Tennis Program. The family’s enthusiasm for tennis was recently on display when Kali and JT participated in a clinic put by the Washington Kastles and Venus Williams in June – we have some great pictures in this newsletter! Karen joined the S.A.F.E. board after seeing how much her children loved learning and playing tennis with Coach Spyke. And she has brought her enthusiasm for youth sports and counseling to S.A.F. E. in her role as a member of the Board of Directors.
Karen – welcome to S.A.F.E.!
